Sierra Leone’s Deputy Development Minister Participates In 2022 GPEDC Summit

Geneva, Switzerland, Monday, 12 December 2022 - The Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Rev. Dr. Jonathan Titus-Williams and Mrs. Abie Elizabeth Kamara, the Director, Development Assistance Coordinating Office (DACO), are participating in the 2022 Effective Development Co-operation Summit coming at the midpoint of Agenda 2030, on how better co-operation strengthens trust and transforms the way we work together, organise by the Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation (GPEDC) is an inclusive multi-stakeholder partnership aiming to maximize the effectiveness of all forms of co-operation for development for the shared benefit of people, planet, prosperity, and peace.

The theme for this year's Summit is "The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Effective Development Co-operation Needed More Than Ever”.

At the halfway mark of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the world is off-track in achieving the SDGs. Gains made in poverty reduction and human development since the beginning of the century are being lost; global development challenges are growing in urgency and scale; and shocks and crises are driving an ever-growing humanitarian funding gap.

At this crucial time, the Effective Development Cooperation Summit brings together concerned groups in their diversity at decision making level, to reflect on the “how” of development cooperation and build a common understanding about urgent measures to be taken.

The Summit will emphasize the urgency of building trust and working together in an era of interlinked challenges. It will point to the need to transform the way all actors in development co-operation should work together to regain traction and accelerate progress on the 2030 Agenda for people and planet.

The key objectives of the Summit are a strong and high-level call for ambition and dialogue amongst very diverse groups of actors; a reminder of the international commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; a shared basis of facts related to the current context for development cooperation; the challenges it is facing and the possible consequences of inaction; a reality check of what these challenges mean to peoples directly affected.

Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Rev. Dr. Jonathan Titus-Williams is expected to speak at a High-Level Panel discussion on Fostering Collective Efforts for Sustainable Development Impact: Focusing on Joint Results as a Lever for a Global Recovery.

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development promotes and sustains the economic growth through effective planning and governance of public investment.The Ministry adopts the "inclusive growth" approach, which creates suitable jobs and provides wider opportunities for citizens to enjoy the outcomes of economic growth.
